Despite one of the wettest springs on record, a pretty miserable summer and general reports on lower yields, there is still lots of fruit on trees throughout the UK going to waste.
Fruit share is an initiative to encourage the local distribution of surplus garden or orchard-grown fruit that would otherwise go to waste.
Fruit sharers and fruit seekers can register.

Comment by Nick Ratcliffe on May 22, 2012 at 15:41 Hi.
I received the group email about the community-led box scheme workshop in Hackney, which I'll be going along to, with a view to providing a similar scheme in Tunbridge Wells.
My friend and I are already running a fruit and veg box scheme in Tunbridge Wells, delivering to local independent businesses and people's homes 6 days a week. We used to have Bishop's Greengrocers in the town centre, but sadly had to close in February due to skyrocketing rent and business rates.
We are in a position now where we could provide the group with a weekly Kent-and-Sussex-produced seasonal fruit and veg box, and this would be a great time of year to get started on something like this with the veg season well under way, and salad crops and soft fruit coming on line right now.
How many of you would be interested in something like this, and what would you want it to look like? If the plan is for it to be a truly community-led box scheme, it would be up to the community to determine criteria for what goes into the box, but we would certainly be able to facilitate it. We're a small local business, and we've had every problem imaginable thrown at us, and are genuinely interested in knowing what people want from a veg box.
Looking forward to your feedback,
Nick.

Comment by Alexander Killick on May 29, 2011 at 14:51 Hi,
I would like to help out on the community allotment. When is the next working day? I live in Rusthall, near the Toad Rock and would probably be coming by bike so there may be a limit to what I can bring with me. I have no previous experience - except that I am a fairly active member of the commons conservation group (but this mainly involves bashing scrub.) Anyway look forward to it.
