Great Seed Swap at Millennium Seed Bank, Wakehurst Place

Swap spare seeds from the plants growing in your garden with seeds from garden vegetables and flowers grown by other enthusiasts. The day will be focused on saving and swapping seeds of heritage vegetable varieties, through which a general message of home-growing and shopping locally for seasonal produce will be promoted. Allotments

Our Tunbridge Wells community allotments are due for renewal before April. Last year the gate was padlocked and two keys only were issued to us, with no others allowed. Therefore the term "community allotment" is no longer valid.

I have enquired about the possible availability of Southborough allotments for the community. Currently there is a waiting list of 15, but many plots remain uncultivated.

Next week sees our last chance to get an international agreement to limit greenhouse gas emissions before it's too late. Sussex MP Greg Barker, the Minister for Climate Change, is going to Durban with Chris Huhne and needs our support for a binding agreement to keep emissions below a dangerous level. The draft National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) is set to overturn at a stroke 1,000 pages of planning law and 6,000 pages of planning guidance built up since 1947.

The NPPF came up for discussion with Greg Clark MP on the 16th and at the AGM of CPRE Tunbridge Wells on the 20th. The presumption in favour of sustainable development (para. 13) came up for widespread criticism and Greg pledged to define "sustainable" in the final draft.

Big Climate Connection

Last November some of us lobbied Greg Clark MP as a way of influencing government legislation. Now the Stop Climate Chaos movement is asking us to meet him again to talk about the Energy Bill and how we can cut emissions as required by the Climate Change Act. The key is the issue of insulating homes properly, creating jobs to get this done and making landlords agree to the necessary steps. Is anyone up for this? We need to arrange an appointment.
