Kent Wildlife Gardening Awards Scheme

Kent Wildlife Trust in partnership with Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and Kent High Weald Partnership has announced its Kent Wildlife Gardening Awards scheme for
2010.

Any garden, window box or patio can be entered, however large or small! Entry is free and open to everyone, whether they are a business, community group, school,
allotment or tenant. So if you are wild about your window box or potty about
your patio pots, we would love to hear from you.

Closing date for entries is the 30th of June and by the end of the summer all entered gardens will be assessed and given bronze, silver or gold awards. There are two
extra awards for the Borough of Tunbridge Wells this year which include best
urban wildlife garden in Tunbridge Wells and best school wildlife garden in the
Borough.

Other awards this year are going to be given to:

· The Best Dragon Garden (i.e. for amphibians and reptiles) – sponsored by KRAG (Kent Reptile & Amphibian
Group)

· The Best Churchyard for Wildlife – sponsored by God’s Acre Project

· The Best School Wildlife Garden– sponsored by Kent Top Temps

· The Best Community Wildlife Garden (including allotments) – sponsored by The Potted Garden Nursery.

· Best balcony, container or small garden

· Best overall wildlife garden

Gemma Grant from the Kent High Weald Partnership, who is helping to run the scheme in the Tunbridge Wells Borough said ‘it doesn’t take much to make your garden wildlife
friendly. By doing simple things such as putting up a bird box, planting pots up
with flowering plants or even creating a compost heap in one corner can provide
so much for our local wildlife’.

‘We are launching this years awards at a charity open day at Marle Place Gardens in Brenchley near Tonbridge, who are last years winners. It is an ideal opportunity to grab some
ideas for your own garden and spend a day out in the fresh air. The open day is
on the 21st of April from 10am.’
